Monitoring of Implementation & Compliance

Introduction

This indicator relates to the degree to which environmental legislation, both national, provincial or local, is being upheld and adhered to. This indicator will initially monitor one item, namely adherence to the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) outlined and agreed to in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). This indicator can later be expanded to include other items such as adherence to emission permits for air and water.

Assessment of Data

Unfortunately it is not possible to monitor this indicator as currently there is no data available for this indicator as no monitoring of implementation and compliance takes place in the province due to lack of sufficient capacity to conduct this compliance monitoring within the relevant provincial environmental authority, namely the Mpumalanga Department of Agriculture & Land Administration (DALA).
